William was at 85 Three Doors, Holmbush, St. Austell, Cornwall, in the 1851 census. He married Sarah Nicholls (nee Spargo) (b. April 8, 1839, at St. Austell, Cornwall; d. August 1, 1913, at Timaru, New Zealand) October 5, 1863, at the parish church of Charlestown, St. Austell, Cornwall. They left England on the Tiptree, leaving London October 20, 1863, and arriving in Lyttlelton, New Zealand January 20, 1864, traveling with her son from a previous marriage, William Nichols (b. June 9, 1856, at St. Austell, Cornwall; d. May 26, 1884, at Timaru, New Zealand). Upon their arrival in New Zealand, they made their home in Timaru. He worked as a laborer.

Spouse: Sarah Spargo (b. ca 1839; d. August 2, 1913, at Timaru, New Zealand).
